Did you know that Detroit, MI is getting a giant statue of RoboCop? It’s a brilliant idea and, thanks to a successfully funded Kickstarter project which launched back in 2011, construction of the giant cyborg police officer is now nearing its final stage: bronze casting.

Across The Board Creations has completed a 10-foot-tall RoboCop model out of foam, wax, clay and steel. It is now headed to Venus Bronze Works in Detroit for casting.

TIME’s new cover makes me so mad I could write essays about it, but instead I’m going to keep job hunting since in today’s world a university degree means nothing and therefore like much of my generation, I’m stuck choosing between minimum wage jobs and internships that I can’t afford to accept in an attempt to pay off my tens of thousands of dollars worth of student debt.

I’d be interested in reading this article to see exactly what makes us entitled and lazy. Are we lazy because more of us are completing high school and going to college than ever before? Are we entitled because our standard of living is declining? Do we live with our parents because we’re too slothful to leave or is because our education costs are getting steeper and steeper while we’re getting less and less aid?

Tell us, Time Magazine, about how we’re narcissistic little slugs when we’re faced with an economic crisis that resulted in a lowering of our standard of living, an increase in tuition costs and how when we get out of our very expensive schools, more and more of us are going to end up working minimum wage jobs.

It’s ok Gen Y. Its just thing Time magazine loves to do. See:

that first paragraph up there—the stuff about investing in after school activities and keeping the schools open until 9pm, etc. —I’m thinking about that in context to of the Emergency Managers in Michigan. And how if they were *really* invested in fixing economic problems rather than privatization, they’d be figuring out ways to do *exactly* what she is suggesting. Making the schools an essential part of the community means that youth don’t drop out and people don’t transfer to other districts. it means that people *move into* that district.

another example, what would happen if community groups were trained and paid to go to houses in the community and clean up lead? not only would it provide jobs, but when there’s a proven correlation between lead levels and low achievment in school—what effect would it have on student’s test schools and ability to focus and stay in school if their bodies aren’t being poisoned? there are seriously NO foundation grants for this sort of thing? why aren’t city mayors, councils, EMs, etc working their asses off to find foundation grants and corporate investment in cleaning up lead so that public schools can stay open—instead of building a whole new building to stick a charter school in?

As a Chicago native, I am so, so disappointed in what’s happening with the school system there. The county board president goes on to say that she and a lot of other people suspect that officials are trying to weaken public schools in order to pave the way for charter and contract schools. That is truly unconscionable.

Funding education should be the number one priority in America. NUMBER. ONE. Right now it makes up 3% of the federal budget. Education fights crime. Education fights poverty. Education fights income inequality. Education encourages people to become the small business owners that drive many local economies. Investing in education is an investment in our children, our workforce, and our economy. But the people who run this country - both the politicians and the people who donate the most to them - stand to gain from private prisons and welfare programs and military contractors, so fuck all those little kids and their struggling families, right?

If schools provided all three meals, families would save money on food and kids who wouldn’t have had a breakfast otherwise will learn better. if schools stayed open til 9 - or even 6 - parents would save money on childcare and be able to work more hours. These would be incredibly boons to local economies. When I think about how we could have things like this but we don’t, instead we have two wars and corporate welfare, it just makes me fume.

Actually, the OP has a point. Most dress codes I’ve seen have guidelines for both male and female students. Male student codes are usually along the lines of no bare chest/mesh shirts, no baggy pants, no exposed underwear, shorts must a certain length, no baseball hats, etc.

I think the dress code issues I’ve seen all over tumblr are two fold. The first is the reason for these dress codes is to “keep girls bodies from distracting boys”. If that is the attitude of the admistration, its wrong. Dress codes are to help promote a certain level of “professionalism” among students (ie, you’re not here to party, you’re here to learn).

The second (and related to the first) is that the dress codes are being disproportionately enforced against female students. That is problematic and sexist.

The Doctor's name

So, I’ve been slightly amused by all the freaking out the we may learn the Doctor’s name in the season finale. In a lot ways, I’m a relatively new Who fan (watched on CBC when I was little, only just started watching the new ones a year ago), so I’m not as emotionally invested.

However, it has occurred to me how we learn the Doctor’s name. In “Journey to the Center of the Tardis”, at the very end the Doctor says “it’s like you’ve lived two days crammed into one” indicating that he at least has some faint memory of the events that passed before he reset time. Well, he’s the Doctor and maybe that’s just his timelord senses kicking in. But then we go to the Van Baalens and we see Gregor’s retained some memory too based on his comment about having some decency.

So, what does Clara remember? What was the big revelation for her? The Doctor’s name! Even though she’s not remembering it directly, its in her head somewhere waiting for the right cue to pull it up!

Stupid body-shaming aside, I found this hilarious because that’s a couch for a dollhouse.

I don’t get how this is body shaming since we are talking about her dress. Be it the person is fat or thin, tall or short, this pattern should not be a dress.

Yeah, I agree its an ugly dress, but it can be considered body-shaming because its comparing her to a couch, which is a common fat joke. That’s why I find it ironic, because is actually a tiny-tiny couch. For instance, the original poster could of used a picture of floral curtains and then commentary would be on the dress and not on her body.
